Dr. Minnie Vishwanath is a tenured Associate Professor and the Graduate Program Director in the Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics at the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Dentistry. She also serves as a director representing the Midwestern Society of Orthodontists on the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO), a position she will hold through 2030. In 2029, Dr. Vishwanath is set to assume the presidency of the ABO, becoming only the second woman to lead the board in its nearly 100-year history.
Dr. Vishwanath earned her dental and orthodontic degrees in India before relocating to the United States in 2012. She completed a one-year orthodontic internship at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, followed by a fellowship and a three-year residency in orthodontics at the University of Connecticut (UConn Health). She also holds a Membership in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics.
As a full-time faculty member, Dr. Vishwanath is actively engaged in teaching, clinical care, and research. Her primary research interests include the biomechanics of tooth movement and the management of impacted canines—areas in which she has conducted extensive in vivo and in vitro studies. Her work emphasizes translational research with a strong focus on clinical application, and she has authored numerous scientific publications. Dr. Vishwanath also serves as a peer reviewer for several leading orthodontic journals.
